Frequently Asked Questions
Crypto Gift Cards
Yes. Our gift cards are generated in the USA using strong cryptography and the passwords are never saved except for under the scratch-off strip. Keep in mind that they are gift cards and meant to be disposable and transferrable. Once the password has been revealed from under the scratch-off strip, anyone who sees the encrypted private key and password can transfer the funds.
When storing a large amount of cryptocurrency we would recommend a QR cash card where you yourself generated the passphrase or a hardware wallet.
Our cards are all shipped empty. It is up to you to add the cryptocurrency to the card using one of the many available methods. Some sources include mobile wallets, bitcoin ATMs, and crypto exchanges.
How to use:
- Load it! Anyone can send bitcoin to the bitcoin (BTC) address QR code on the card. Some sources include mobile wallets, bitcoin ATMs, and crypto exchanges. When the transaction is confirmed, you should see the new balance by scanning the QR code on the back with your mobile device.
- Give it! The QR cash gift card is a unique gift that will get a lot of attention. It will be greatly appreciated and treasured. Like all cryptocurrency it may go up or down in value and that is the fun part.
Accessing the bitcoin on the card:
There are several options. The private key QR code is encrypted with industry standard BIP-38 encryption. The password to unlock the private key is under the scratch-off next to the lock on the back. Once you reveal the password, we recommend sweeping the funds into a mobile wallet or sending it to a new BTC address right away.
- Confirm the card balance by scanning the back QR code with your mobile device.
- In your mobile wallet or exchange choose whether you want to import and save your private key or if you want to sweep the bitcoin from the card to a new address.
- Scan the private key QR code with the mobile wallet or exchange.
- You’ll be prompted to enter the password, which you can reveal by scratching off the strip.
- Confirm the transfer and wait for confirmation.
- Check the balance in both places to confirm a successful transfer.
Our cards are made of high-quality PVC and the same size as a credit or gift card.
Cryptocurrency
There are no special fees to use the QR cash card. Crypto currencies in general usually have small mining fees that go to the miners. The miners are the ones that verify and confirm transactions.
The mining fees are usually around 0.00002688 BTC (.40 to .50 USD) for a typical transaction. The amount of the fee is set when sending a payment. We let you choose the delivery speed on transactions between economy, normal, and priority. That controls the amount of the fee that gets sent with your payment. The higher the priority, the higher the fee.
The amount (quantity) of cryptocurrency on the card does not change unless you spend or add more to it. Since there is an exchange rate between cryptocurrency and the US Dollar (USD) or other currencies, then the dollar value of your card may change due to market changes.
One of the interesting aspects of the QR cash card is that it can be given to someone who may not be familiar with cryptocurrency as a gift. It is a great way to spread the word and get others to start using and investing in cryptocurrency. Give the gift of HODL!
The QR cash card is considered cold storage. Cold storage is one of the most secure ways of holding crypto currency.
Your wallet’s private key is encrypted with industry standard BIP-38 encryption. As long as the passphrase is kept secure, then your wallet is secure.
If you’ve ever heard the phrase “not your keys, not your coins” what they mean is that when holding crypto currency it is important to have control over your private keys.
When you have control over your private keys you are not trusting a third party with your crypto and there is less chance that your crypto will be lost or stolen from an exchange or online wallet.
Currently, our QR cash cards work with bitcoin (BTC). We will soon be adding more QR cash cards for other cryptocurrencies.
Payment Processing
The easiest way to accept a payment is to give someone your QR cash card address. This is usually in the left QR code on the front of the card. It is also written in text at the bottom front of the card.
You do not need to give anyone the private key and especially not the passphrase to accept a payment.
Once the sender has your address they can send you funds that will accumulate on the QR cash card. We recommend you check your balance to make sure the payment was actually sent.
We also provide a page for accepting payments. See our Accept page.
- The funds on the QR cash card can be imported to any mobile or online wallet that supports BIP-38 decryption.
- You may also use our site: https://qr.cash/pay/
- Make sure the crypto currency you trying to send is the one listed on the page. For example Bitcoin (BTC).
- Fill out the “Send To Address” or use the scanner icon to scan the QR code of the address you are paying. Take great care if trying to type an address. Funds sent to a wrong address cannot be recovered.
- Enter the BTC amount or use the “$” to calculate from USD.
- Fill out the “Send From” or use the scanner icon to scan the TX/Key (right) QR code on your card.
- Set your Delivery Speed. A typical transaction fee is in the $.40 to $.50 range. Depending on your chosen delivery speed and market conditions this could be higher or lower.
- Click Go and then confirm your passphrase. If the payment is successfully submitted you will receive a confirmation.
QR cash card
Once the card is created, there is no way to change the password. We recommend getting a new card with a different passprase and transferring the funds to the new card right away if you feel that your passphrase has been compromised.
We ship the QR cash cards with zero funds on them.
There are various ways of putting funds on a card. The cards have an address in a QR code on the left front. Funds can be sent to to that address from a crypto currency wallet with the same type of currency as the card.
Here are some of the easiest ways to do this:
- If you are already familiar with crypto currency, then you probably already have a wallet. Transfer some funds to the address on your card.
- Get someone to pay for your services in crypto currency. All they need to do is scan your RX QR code on the front left of the card to be able to send you funds.
- Receive payments for your business using our payment processor link so your customers can pay you with crypto currency.
Your QR cash card will be mailed to you by the US Postal Service.
Actually, no. The javascript code that generates the card actually runs only in your web browser. Once the card is generated, then it sends us only the public key and encrypted private key. It does not send us the passphrase you used to generated the card. The passphrase is necessary to access the funds and we never get it.
We do recommend you keep a copy of the passphrase printed out or written down somewhere. Remember it is case sensitive as well.
Yes. In order to transfer any funds from your card, there are two key pieces of information that are necessary. First, you need the encrypted private key. It is visible in QR code format on the right front of the card.
Next, you will need the passphrase you used to create the card. We recommend using a long and complex passphrase, but one you can easily remember.
Never store the passphrase on your computer or on the card. If you are worried about forgetting the passphrase, we recommend storing on paper in a fire-proof safe.
If you are worried about losing the card, we recommend keeping a copy of it somewhere safe. You can use the copy to access the funds if you were to lose the actual card as long as you know the passphrase.
Our cards are made of high-quality PVC and the same size as a credit or gift card.
The QR cash card is for everyone!
The world is changing and currency as we know it is evolving. The QR cash card works a lot like an ATM or Debit card, but there is no bank in between. Your funds are stored on the crypto currency blockchain and can be accessed by using the information on the card. A secret passphrase is required to create a transaction and send any funds from the card.
We recommend the QR cash card as a complement to the cash you keep in your wallet. We recommend you keep your balance around the same amount as what you would normally have in cash. Funds can easily be transferred to and from an exchange, electronic wallet, or another QR cash card. One that you keep in a secure location and do not use every day.
Supported Wallets
We currently recommend the Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet which is available for IOS and Android in their respective stores.
The QR cash card is considered cold storage and can be spent using the Cold Storage option or can be added to the mobile wallet as a single address account (in advanced settings). You will need to scan the key and when prompted enter the passphrase to decrypt the key.
We recommend you still keep the QR cash card in a safe place in case you were to lose your phone or mobile wallet. As long as you have the QR cash card itself and the funds have not been spent you can import or spend the funds.
